Take it easy. Nothing you do matters as much as you think. Your greatest achievements aren’t yours at all, they’re accidents and jokes. This is the first photo ever taken from space

It was taken by a camera strapped to V2 missile in 1946. The approach to taking the picture wasn’t very sophisticated: the missile was launched straight up, eventually reaching 65 miles, and then fell straight back down, slamming into the ground at 500 feet per second. The camera was obviously smashed, but the film, protected in a steel case, was developed. The achievement was very exciting for the military scientists in charge of the project. “They were ecstatic, they were jumping up and down like kids” when they found the film intact, and later “when they first projected [the photos] onto the screen, the scientists just went nuts.”
